We believe in strong roots

Just like a strong vineyard begins with a carefully chosen and cared for vine, we believe a community is only as strong as the people who invest in it. So, Traveling Vineyard holds community service close to its core values—making it a key objective here at headquarters but also encouraging our Wine Guides to get involved, too.

 

“He gave the gift of life”

Bella Mente is inspired by a true warrior, Ted Bohnert – loving husband, father, friend and hero who won his battle with Glioblastoma in October 2015. His wife, Lori Stryker, one of our incredible Wine Guides explains, “During his 10.5 month fight, he also gave the gift of himself. Volunteering to participate in as many phase zero experimental clinical trials and research programs as he could knowing full well it was never going to benefit him, just those who came after him. And then Ted gave one final gift to the world. He gave the gift of life. He donated all of his organs to people urgently awaiting transplants. Most importantly, though, he also donated his brain back to GBM research in hopes that maybe one day there will be a cure.”

Traveling Vineyard is donating one dollar from the sale of each bottle of Bella Mente, Italian for “beautiful mind”, to the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA). The ABTA was the first and is now the only national organization committed to funding brain tumor research and providing information and education on all tumor types and all age groups.

"She was a fighter till the end"

The new charity wine was inspired by a former Wine Guide, Paigeann Mapley-Brittle who passed away in November 2012 after a battle with breast cancer. Paigeann was a wife, mother and enthusiastic wine lover whose life was cut too short at the age of 42 from breast cancer.
Her husband, US army officer Jon Mapley Brittle explains, “During her battle with breast cancer, Paigeann vowed that she would not let the disease define her. She vowed, ‘It won’t change who I am or what I do.’ She fought the cancer three separate times, and managed to run a full and a half-marathon after her first chemo to raise funds for cancer research. Her cancer came back twice, and the third time it was just too fast. But she was a fighter until the end. It makes sense that Traveling Vineyard would choose an organization that helps women and their families during their battle with cancer.”

To help with the fight against breast cancer Traveling Vineyard is donating one dollar from the sale of each bottle of Rayado to Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC). LBBC is a non-profit that connects people to trusted breast cancer information and a community of support.
